SEABURY DEANERY ECUADOR MISSION PROGRAM

The Seabury Deanery Ecuador Mission Program is an ongoing international mission ministry, sponsored by our 9 Deanery Parishes, working in tandem with our sister Episcopal Diocese of Central Ecuador. Our mission ministry supports the Millennium Development Goals of the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut which seek to end the deep poverty that limits human flourishing; by living with, and working to improve the lives of, the native and Indigenous peoples of the Amazonian region of Ecuador.

Our Ecuador Mission Intern, Maggie, is already in Quito working in a child care facility. She is writing a blog which you can read at www.clarkieinecuador.blogspot.com.

ISAIAH PRISON MINISTRY

Isaiah Prison Ministry is dedicated to sharing the love of God and reducing recidivism among incarcerated women in the Connecticut State Prison System. The ministry strives to build bridges of friendship and support between women "inside" and faith communities "outside of York Correctional Institution in Niantic, Connecticut.

Isaiah Prison Ministry supports the Reverend Valerie Dixon, who assists the Reverend Laurie Etter, Head Chaplain at York, in providing spiritually based education and pastoral care in three ways:

  • By coordinating and teaching the Chrysalis Community, an interfaith living unit at York Correctional Institution.
  • By recruiting members of area faith communities to serve as volunteer mentors, teachers, and Prayer Partners
  • By working with Epiphany Mentoring Program for Ex-Offenders and other community mentoring groups to locate and educate faith communities willing to welcome and mentor women during the first critical year after their release.

Besides her work with women "inside," Reverend Dixon speaks with faith communities and civic groups "outside" about the needs of those behind bars.
